Happy Thanksgiving

I had to write a quick post to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and share Lincoln is the turkey hat I made him. He may have to continue to wear it after Thanksgiving because it is too cute!

We aren't having Thanksgiving at our house for the first time since we moved here seven years ago because of this little guy. It will be nice to take the day off and just relax. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Button Down Roundup

Button Downs

I am not a huge button down fan outside of my work wardrobe. I haven’t purchased any long sleeve button downs in a while. I have been busy building my wardrobe with every colored cardigan know to man :) Now that I’m a mom and trying out nursing, button downs seem to be a great option. I searched for a few different options that I think I could wear for both work or around the house.

Target Polka Dot Blouse- Love the color and print on this shirt.
Gap Chambray Shirt- I mentioned before I am not a chambray lover but I love the color and fitted look of this shirt.
Old Navy Plaid Shirt- The color of this shirt looks really versatile and would match everything,
Kohls’s Button Down- This shirt is made of rayon so it should stay wrinkle free which is always a plus for button downs.
JC Penney Printed Popover- This isn’t a true button down since it only buttons half way but I love the fun print.
Loft Butterfly Blouse- Here is another fun print that is subtle but had really cute butterflies when you look closer.

Crochet Football Helmet Hat Pattern 0-3 Month

Crochet Footbal Helmet Hat Pattern 0-3 Month

When I asked Mike what kind of hat he wanted me to make for the baby, he immediately wanted a Brown’s football helmet hat. I have made a lot of different variations of these hats and the Browns is so easy because they don’t have a logo on the side to figure out. Of course our little guy will have to be a Browns fan since we live in Northeast Ohio. Even if the browns never do win :) I made this hat in a 0-3 month size so hopefully it will fit him throughout the winter.

If you want to add braids to this hat it would be a really cute addition. Mike opted for no braids so that is why I left them out. If you are looking for a different hat size I have a toddler version and an adult version too.

Owl Themed Baby Nursery Reveal

Get ready for a picture explosion. This is definitely the most pictures I’ve ever put in a post but I had to share them all to show off baby Lincoln’s room. I love how the owl themed nursery turned out and we did it all for a budget price.
IMG_5587
Mike’s mom bought us the owl wall decal from Kohl’s. It was on sale plus a 30% off coupon which made it an amazing price. We ended up getting two different ones. The tree is one decal and then we got the owls on the tree stump too.
IMG_5589
Mike’s sister gave us her crib which she only recently used and we painted it white. I didn’t buy any special bedding since babies can’t use blankets until they are older and bumpers aren’t recommended anymore. I was thinking of getting a bed skirt but decided I liked the clean look of not having one.
IMG_0414
Here’s a closer up shot of the two decals.
IMG_0415

IMG_5233-001
I made the baby owl mobile and shared it in this post. The total cost was around $10 for the mobile clip and felt plus I used some materials from my stash.
IMG_5591
Our biggest expense was the chair. We originally were thinking of using a hand me down rocker but decided it wasn’t comfortable enough to spend long periods of time in. We ended up with the Poang Chair from Ikea with a matching ottoman (not in the picture). It’s has a really nice spring too it, it’s super comfy (especially with the ottoman) and one day it will look nice in our living room.
To the right of the chair is a set of blocks I used when I was a kid. We have it set up as a side table for the moment but as soon as Lincoln is older he will be able to enjoy those blocks as much as I did.
IMG_5598
Mike found the side table on the curb, brought it home and spruced it up with some chalk paint. We had the lamp in another room and the owl trash can came from our shower. The little brown and orange owl came from a garage sale. The white owl is a nightlight we purchased at Babies R Us with gift card money.
IMG_5221
Here’s a closer shot of the side table.
IMG_5595
Above the chair is this sweet little embroidery with Lincoln’s name that my friend made for me.
IMG_5600
I showed you my spray painted owls project already. This is the shelf all finished. The owls were from a garage sale and thrift store so they cost me around $2.00 plus the cost of two cans of spray paint which we also used on the alphabet letters that spell Lincoln. I had the middle owl in my garden last summer. We added two little owl candles that were favors at my baby shower.
The last addition on this shelf is our baby camera monitor. We opted to buy a security camera that hooks up to the computer and our smart phones instead of a specific video baby monitor and we saved a ton of money. Models that hook up to your phone run around $250 and this one was only $80 (which we used a gift card to pay for the majority of it.) It was complicated to set up but the IT support was really great and they got it running for us. We also have a separate audio only monitor we bought with gift card money when we don’t want to use the video monitor.
IMG_5593
The changing table was a $5 garage sale find. We got the three matching baskets as a shower gift and the long one on the bottom we already had. The changing pad, cover, mobile and diaper genie were also baby shower gifts. We had the blinds in the room already and we bought the room darkening curtains on sale at Target for $15.
We were so lucky to receive so many generous gifts and hand me downs that really helped up to create this room and prepare for our little baby Lincoln. One sad day he will tell me he wants a sports room or a car room or some other boy themed room and it will be easy to change it up since we didn’t spend a fortune putting it together. Right now I will enjoy the fact that he is a baby and has an adorable owl room :)

Lincoln Thomas Williams. Born November 14th, 2013 at  2:15 AM. 10 lbs 1 oz 20.5 inches long.

He’s finally here! Baby Lincoln didn’t want to come out and had to be delivered by c section. We finally made it home from the hospital on Sunday afternoon. We are so in love with this little beef cake. He has a full head of hair just like we saw on the ultrasound weeks ago. He has been a great baby so far and I love our new little family!
I have a few posts I pre-scheduled so you will see those over the next couple of weeks while I take a little maternity break to take care of my little guy.

Fall Clothing Wants

This is the first of a series of scheduled posts I wrote in preparation for a mini break to have my baby!

Fall wants

Old Navy Polka Dot Sweater Dress/ Target Flannel Shirt/ The Limited Exact Stretch Skinny Pants/ JC Penney Critter Sweater/ Target Ankle Boots/ JC Penney Ana Tall Boots/ Old Navy Sequin Cardigan

It’s been a long time since I went shopping for clothes for a non pregnant body. Now that it is fall I do a lot of internet window shopping and wistfully think of what I would buy if I didn’t have a big belly or swollen feet getting in my way. Since I’m not sharing any outfits this week I thought I would share what I would like to be wearing instead.

Old Navy Polka Dot Sweater Dress- This is the cutest dress ever! I have a sweater that looks similar to this dress and I would love to add this to my winter work wardrobe.

Target Flannel Shirt- Finding a cute printed flannel shirt was harder than I thought. I’m must be picky with my flannel colors but this one fit the bill. I would love a cozy flannel shirt to lounge around in on the weekends.

The Limited Exact Stretch Skinny Pants- I’ve seen other bloggers rave about these skinny work pants. I would love a pair to add to my work wardrobe which is lacking in the skinny pants category.

JC Penney Critter Sweater- This sweater is kind of silly but I love it. This would be great to wear on the weekends.

Target Ankle Boots- I love the black and cognac combo in these ankle boots. I really want a pair of ankle boots to add to my massive boot collection. They would look cute with skinny jeans or tights with a dress or skirt.

JC Penney Ana Tall Boots- I bought a pair of cognac boots last year but they have a heel and aren’t quite as comfy as I would like for long term wear. I would love a super comfy pair that I can wear all day without aching feet. This pair caught my eye. I love the buckle detail.

Old Navy Sequin Cardigan- I found this cardigan when browsing Old Navy’s website and I feel in love with the polka dot sequins. It could be dressed up or down and you can never have too many cardigans right?

40 Week Bump Update

40 weeks

I was really hoping last week I wouldn’t be writing this post but here I am 4 days overdue in my 40th week. This little guy is nice and comfy in my belly and doesn’t seem to want to come out!

I had a doctors appointment this morning with an ultrasound and he is measuring at a whopping 9 lbs 10 oz! At the last ultrasound he was supposed to be 7 lbs 12 oz at this time. The ultrasound tech said she had a new machine and she wasn’t sure how accurate it was yet. She also had a 1 lb 7 oz margin of error so here to hoping he won’t be an 11 pound baby. The size of my belly measures a week behind so I’m not quite sure how it is possible that he might actually be that big.

My OB scheduled me to be induced on Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM. She scheduled me a day early in the hopes that she will be there to deliver since she will be on call Wednesday afternoon and working at the hospital on Thursday. It’s still possible he might actually want to show up today or tomorrow but at least I have an end date now.

I have been super lucky to be able to work at home since Wednesday. I was having a lot of cramps and Braxton Hicks contractions last week and being able to relax at home instead of going into the office really helped. I really thought it was going to be time for labor but after Friday all my symptoms subsided.

Now I am just uncomfortable at a whole new level. Bending over is nearly impossible and Mike had to help me put my socks on this morning. Luckily I can squeeze into my sneakers after I loosened the laces so my swollen feet can stay warm now that it is getting a lot colder. There is even snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning. I am off work today for Veterans day so I will be enjoying my day off work by doing as little as possible and preparing to be a mom in a few days.

Crochet Turkey Baby Hat Pattern

This post may contain affiliate links. Thanks for helping to support my blog!

Crochet baby turkey hat pattern

I am obsessed with making the baby crocheted hats for my new baby. This is my fifth design, and sixth hat since I made one in two different sizes. I saw a turkey hat for sale on Groopdealz and I suddenly had an urge to make one. I looked for a pattern but nothing was exactly what I wanted so I just made one up myself. It was fairly quick and easy and I finished it in two days. I am somewhat obsessed with this silly turkey hat even though he will probably only wear it a couple of times, at least I will get a cute picture out of it :)

I had all these colors already in my stash. I think the hat would also look cute in a light brown color but I had dark brown so that is what I used. Any shade of red, orange and yellow would also work well.

I wrote the pattern for a 0-3 month size but I am going to give a variation for newborn and 3-6 month size as well. I did not test if the face pattern will work or not so it may need to be adjusted if it is too big or small.

Fasten off. Leave an extra long tail for sewing. Use the tail to put a small stitch in the black part of the eye.

Turn (do not make a CH 1) SC in next 2 stitches.
Turn (do not make a CH 1) SC in next stitch.
SC around entire piece putting 2 SC in each point of the triangle. ( I found it helpful to put a stitch marker in the first stitch)
Fasten off. Leave an extra long tail for sewing.

Feather Curly Qs:
Make 1 red, 2 orange, 2 gold
CH 18. SC in 2nd CH from hook and each across.
Fasten off. Leave an extra long tail for sewing.
This will curl on it’s own. Use your fingers to help the piece curl more.

Beak Curly Q:
In red
CH 11. SC in 2nd CH from hook and each across.
Fasten off. Leave an extra long tail for sewing.

I find it easiest to sew the beak on the center of the hat first. Then sew the beak curly Q next to it. Sew the eyes above the beak. Sew the Feather Curly Qs to the top of the hat. Use the picture as a guide.

Braids- Make 2:
Use 2 strands each of red, orange and gold.
Cut strands to 24 inches.
Use a crochet hook to pull through bottom of earflap.
Tie a knot, braid to desired length and tie another at the end. (It is easier to start with longer strands and cut shorter if desired after the braid is made.)

What I Wore #44- Third Trimester Outfits

I think this is the last time you will see my outfits for a while. I am not too fond of taking my picture anymore and I have run out of combinations of clothes to wear. There are only a couple of shirts that still cover my belly and none of my shoes fit since my feet are all swollen. Not really anything I want to document anymore at this point :) So here is what I struggled to get together this week.

IMG_5530

Cardigan- Thrifted: Old Navy, Shirt- New York and Company, Pants- Target Liz Lange Maternity, Shoes- Target, Necklace- Thrifted

I pulled this cardigan out of my winter clothes closet and was excited it looked nice to wear open. This shirt I’m wearing is actually non maternity and one of the few non maternity shirts that I can still wear thanks to the side ruching.

Cardigan- Thrifted: Old Navy, Pants- Garage Sale: Motherhood Maternity, Tank- Gap Maternity, Shoes- Target, Necklace- Gift

IMG_5539

Shirt- Target, Pants- Target Liz Lange Maternity, Shoes- Target, Necklace- Made by me

My hair looked great this day, until I stepped outside, it was rainy and it immediately started to curl out. This is pretty much my only long sleeve maternity shirt. I got it on super clearance at Target for only $2.98. It was an internet return and didn’t have a real tag on it. I’m not even sure if it’s really maternity or not but it’s long with side ruching and it still fits really well. I actually can’t stop wearing it.

39 Week Bump Update

39 weeks-001

I’m in my last week! 3 days to go until my due date. I am really hoping this is the last bump update I will be posting because this baby needs to show up soon!

At my doctor’s appointment today she said I was 3 cm dilated and expects me to go into labor on my own since I have already progressed so far along. She still scheduled an appointment for next week with an ultrasound to check on the baby’s position but hopefully by this time next week I will have a baby in my arms instead of my belly.

My latest pregnancy symptom is swollen feet and ankles. Out of all the uncomfortableness I’ve been through this one rivals for worst symptom. I can’t wear any of my shoes anymore because my feet won’t fit into them. I was shoving them into my flats at work but I just don’t think that is going to be possible anymore. Most of my flip flips don’t even fit except for one pair. They were a DIY I did last summer where I replaced the plastic straps with braids made out of tee shirt material so they are super stretchy. It was 30 degrees outside this morning and I was out and about in my flip flops. It actually wasn’t that bad because the cold air felt great on my feet. I’m usually the one that always has cold feet but not now. Plus comfort wins out over cold feet anyway. I feel much better when they aren’t constricted. I suppose I can feel lucky that this only happened at the end or I would probably have to buy a pair of temporary shoes to wear until my feet go back to a normal size.

Mike and I were busy cleaning the house this weekend. He vacuumed and steam cleaned the carpet and I helped dust, straighten and put away laundry. We both want to get the house in order so there is nothing to worry about when the baby gets here.

The pack and play and swing are all set up in the living room, the nursery is ready, his clothes are washed and put away, we have a stockpile of diapers and wipes, the car seat is in the car, the hospital bags are packed, all we need now is a baby!
